One of the things I love most about being a newborn photographer is how every family brings their own ideas, traditions, and creativity into the studio. Each session tells a different story — and sometimes, those stories spark something truly special.
That’s exactly how my Dim Sum-themed newborn photo setup began.
It all started when one lovely mum came to her baby’s session with her own Dim Sum props — tiny bamboo steamers, adorable dumpling toys, and the cutest little setup you could imagine! It was such a unique idea, and I instantly admired her creativity.
After the session, she did something incredibly kind — she gifted me the entire Dim Sum setup. She told me, “You can use these for other clients who love this theme too!”
At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever use them again. It wasn’t really my usual style, and I didn’t know if other parents would request a Dim Sum theme. But just like she predicted — many families did!
Soon after sharing the first photos, more and more parents started asking for the Dim Sum setup. They loved the cultural connection, the playfulness, and how adorable their babies looked nestled among the tiny dumplings and bamboo baskets. It became an unexpected favourite!
Now, I’ve even started adding to the collection — buying more mini steamers, bao buns, and cute little accessories to make the setups even more fun and unique. It’s amazing how something that started as one mum’s creative idea has turned into one of the most loved themes in my studio.
The Dim Sum theme reminds me that inspiration can come from anywhere — and sometimes, the best ideas are the ones that surprise you.
