What is Baby Acne?

Baby acne is a common skin condition that develops on a baby’s face and body. It can appear in tiny red or white bumps or pimples. Baby acne does not stay forever. Some myths say it’s the result of breastfeeding and some say it could just be the baby hormones.

Usually, the professional baby photographers know when to turn on the heater and when to turn it off depending on the pose and the setup they are doing. 

Treatment for Baby Acne

It is a great ideas for mums to try to keep the baby’s skin clean and clear while they are waiting for the baby acne to go away by itself. Here are some treatments mums can do to treat their baby acne for their baby.

1. Avoid harsh products

It is recommended to use only baby products on your baby’s skin if you need to use any. Do not use any scented soaps, bubble bath and any types that contain excessive chemicals. Baby’s skin is so soft and very fragile. Their skin is very sensitive therefore only baby’s products are highly recommended. 

2. Skip the lotions

Imagine for us, adults, we do not put any facial cream and lotion on our face when we have pimples because we know it will do more harm than good. Same thing for baby’s skin. Lotion is unlikely to do good for baby acne. But if you really need to put some lotion on your baby’s skin, baby’s products would be recommended or consult with your doctor or midwife. 

3. Don’t scrub

We have pimples and we do not scrub it! Baby acne will go away by itself but we have to be gentle with the baby’s skin. Scrub the baby acne will do more harm than good on your baby’s skin. Instead of scrubbing, use the washcloth and gently sweep over the face in circular motions. Then use a towel to pat the baby’s face dry. Your baby should feel more comfortable and more relax. Like a little baby spa treatment! 

4. Keep baby’s face clean

Keep baby’s face clean by washing your baby’s face daily with warm water. Again, baby’s products are highly recommended. Fragrance-free products are least likely to irritate the baby’s skin. Any products with high volume of chemical can do more harm to the baby’s skin, especially when they have baby acne. 

5. Be patient

As a professional baby photographer in Sydney, I know it is a big worry to see your baby got baby acne. Most of the times, parents feel more uncomfortable than the baby actually does. But just be patient. Baby acne is usually harmless and it is not itchy or painful for your baby. It should quickly go away by itself. It just needs a little bit of time.
