Why Newborn Photography Safety Matters
Newborns are delicate. Their tiny bodies are still adjusting to the world outside the womb, and they require gentle handling, a warm environment, and constant care. While the poses may look effortless in photos, behind the scenes, every position and movement is done with purpose, patience, and protection in mind.
Your baby’s comfort and wellbeing always come first. No photo is worth compromising a baby’s safety.
My Approach to Safe Newborn Sessions
Here are just a few ways I prioritise your baby’s safety in every session:
1. Posing with Purpose
I only use safe, natural poses that support your baby’s body. I never force your baby into uncomfortable or unnatural positions. Some more complex poses (like the “froggy” pose) are done only with advanced technique and composite editing, where multiple images are combined to ensure the baby is supported at all times.
2. Spotters and Support
Your baby is always closely supervised. I may ask a parent or assistant to stay nearby during certain poses or to act as a spotter to ensure constant support.
3. Clean and Sanitised Studio
My Leichhardt studio is thoroughly cleaned and sanitised before and after every session. All props, wraps, blankets, and surfaces are freshly cleaned to maintain a hygienic and baby-friendly environment.
4. Baby-Led Sessions
Every session is baby-led, which means we follow your baby’s cues. If your baby needs a feed, a cuddle, or a break, we pause and give them that time. There’s never a rush, and I build extra time into each session to accommodate your baby’s needs.
5. Room Temperature & Comfort
The studio is kept at a warm and cozy temperature to ensure your baby is comfortable, especially during wrapped or undressed shots. I also use white noise to help keep your baby calm and soothed.
6. Trained & Experienced
As a trained newborn photographer with years of experience, I understand the unique needs and limits of newborn babies. I stay informed with best practices and continually update my skills to ensure safe handling and posing techniques.
