What If My Baby Gets Hungry During the Newborn Photography Session?

Cute newborn baby was held by his parents for his newborn photoshoot in Sydney.

One of the most common questions I get from parents is,
“What if my baby gets hungry during the session?”

The short answer is: that’s completely expected — and absolutely okay.

A newborn photography session usually takes around 3 hours, and during that time your baby will naturally need to feed, be changed, and have little breaks. Newborns don’t run on a schedule, and I never expect them to.

Feeding Breaks Are Always Welcome

If your baby shows signs of hunger, we simply pause the session and allow time for a full feeding break. There’s no rushing, no pressure. Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, I make sure you have a comfortable, relaxed space to feed your baby.

In fact, feeding during the session often helps babies settle into a deeper sleep afterward — which is perfect for those beautifully posed, sleepy images.

Nappy Changes & Settling Time Are Part of the Process

Along with feeding, nappy changes are also very normal during a session. After a feed or a change, we may need a little extra time to gently settle your baby again before continuing with posing. This could involve cuddles, wrapping, or soothing — all done slowly and safely.

This settling time is not “lost time.” It’s simply part of working with a newborn.

Baby Is the Boss

Every baby is different. Some need more feeds, some need extra cuddles, and some just want to be held for a bit — and that’s perfectly fine. I always work at your baby’s pace, never forcing poses or pushing through discomfort.

I truly believe that baby is the boss during a newborn session. When we follow their lead, the experience is calmer, safer, and much more enjoyable for everyone — including you.

A Relaxed Experience for Parents

My goal is for you to feel reassured and relaxed throughout the session. You never need to worry about your baby being hungry, unsettled, or needing a break. These moments are expected, planned for, and welcomed.

So if you’re wondering whether your baby getting hungry will disrupt the session — please don’t worry. It’s all part of the newborn journey, and I’m here to guide you through it with patience and care 🤍
