3 Rules for Baby Photography

3 Rules for baby photography are what baby photographer in Sydney like myself would like to share with you. As a baby photographer in Sydney, I have photographed hundreds of babies in across Sydney, from South West Sydney areas to North Sydney areas. Over the years, I have learned some important things about photographing babies, especially toddlers, can be challenging. And here are the 3 rules for baby photography I believe it is useful for parents or baby photographers to keep in mind.

3 Rules for Baby Photography: Age

Number one of the 3 rules for baby photography is Age. As a baby photographer in Sydney, understanding baby’s development can be very useful. Babies act and react differently through their age. Babies at the age of between 1 – 2.5 years old are the time when they like to explore new objects and people. They are curious about everything! They will show a very high level of independence and as a professional baby photographer, we must understand this nature and let them explore and be themselves!

Before and during the photo session at our Baby Photography Studio in Sydney, I always communicate clearly with our parents who come in with their toddlers that this is what we can expect. And I do not rush the session! Sometimes we have to let them play, let them relax and then they will give us the biggest smiles!

3 Rules for Baby Photography: Napping Hours

Rule number two is Napping Hours. It is important to know the baby’s napping hours. As a professional baby photographer in Sydney, I always ask our parents about the baby’s napping hours. The reason is because baby can get cranky when they are sleepy, same like us adults! It is best to schedule the photo session before or after their napping hours. If they happen to take a nap while at the studio, that is not a problem at all. We can wait! But once we understand the baby’s napping hours, then we can understand their behaviours and what they are trying to communicate with us. To get those beautiful smiles in the family portrait, it is very important that the babies had their nap!

3 Rules for Baby Photography: Patience

As a professional baby photographer in Sydney, I can not emphasis enough how important patience is for our career. First of all, we love babies! Second of all, we have a very high level of patience! Patience is a must have criteria for baby photography. Let them play and let them be themselves. It might take a little bit longer or it might be a quick photo session but we can not control it because the baby is the BOSS!
