If you told me a year ago that I’d be creating balloon garlands in my studio, I probably would have laughed and said, “No way!” Balloons were something I always tried to avoid — I was genuinely afraid of them. The sudden pops, the thought of one bursting mid-session — it all made me anxious!
For the longest time, I played it safe. Instead of balloons, I invested in beautiful printed backdrops for my first birthday photo sessions. They looked lovely and photographed well, and I thought that was enough.
But then… things changed.
More and more clients began asking for simple balloon garlands for their baby’s first birthday photo sessions. At first, I hesitated. I thought, “Maybe I can try — but only if it’s a simple one!”
So, I decided to give it a go.
I started watching tutorials on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram — learning little tricks and techniques from balloon artists and event stylists. The more I watched, the more I realised how achievable it really was. The balloons didn’t pop as easily as I imagined. They were actually fun to work with!
And then something unexpected happened — I fell in love with it.
Creating balloon garlands has become one of my favourite parts of styling first birthday sessions. They add such a joyful and festive touch without being too over the top. Whether it’s a soft pastel theme, a neutral tone, or a pop of bright colours, balloon garlands bring life and celebration to every photo.
My clients love them — and so do I!
Now, when parents book their baby’s first birthday photo session with me, I get excited thinking about the possibilities. Each garland feels like a mini work of art that perfectly frames the milestone moment — celebrating the incredible first year of their little one’s life.
I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to try something new. Sometimes the things we’re most afraid of turn out to be what we end up loving the most.
