One of the most common questions parents ask before booking is how long a newborn session will take. It’s a very understandable question — especially when you’re adjusting to life with a brand new baby.
At my studio in Leichhardt, I always approach each session with patience and flexibility, because every baby is different.
A Relaxed and Baby-Led Experience
A full newborn session typically takes around 3 hours.
This allows plenty of time for:
- Feeding
- Settling and soothing
- Gentle posing
- Cuddles and breaks whenever needed
There is no rush. Your baby leads the session, and we simply follow their pace. Some babies settle quickly, while others may need a little more time — and that’s completely okay.

Why Sessions Take Time
Newborn photography is not just about taking photos. It’s about creating a calm and comfortable environment where your baby feels safe.
We take breaks when needed, especially for feeding or comforting. These pauses are an important part of the process and help ensure your baby stays relaxed throughout the session.
Because of this, sessions can sometimes be a little shorter or a little longer than expected — it all depends on your baby on the day.
Mini Sessions for a Simpler Option
If you’re looking for something shorter, I also offer mini swaddled sessions.
These sessions:
- Focus on simple, wrapped (swaddled) setups
- Are for baby only
- Usually take around 1 hour
They are a beautiful option if you prefer a quicker session while still capturing those precious early moments.

It’s All About Going with the Flow
Every newborn session is unique. Some babies sleep deeply, while others prefer a bit more comfort and time — and both are perfectly normal.
My approach is always calm, gentle, and patient, so you never feel rushed or stressed during your time in the studio.
