How Many Props For A Newborn Photo Session?

How many props for a newborn photo session is a question frequently asked by my Sydney parents. As a newborn photographer in Sydney, I love to prepare as many props as possible to make sure we get the best shots with variety for our parents to choose from. But in saying that, keep in mind that we do not force the baby because baby is the boss!

Beanbag Poses

Beanbag poses are when we pose the baby on the beanbag. It sounds simple but it can be challenging sometimes. Some babies feel comfortable posing on the beanbag while some babies are not. Some babies like some poses while some babies are not. But as a professional newborn photographer in Sydney, I have my general workflow that works best with every babies.

How Many Props On Beanbag

With the beanbag, I would say it is also a prop but not so obvious like the wooden props such as wooden basket or a little bucket. Why I consider beanbag as prop? Because we do change the fabric on the beanbag after one or two poses to get some variety and fabric colours can change the look and feel for each pose as well. How many props for beanbag I would say I usually do about four to five poses on the beanbag with three or four fabric changes for background.

Flokati Rug

As a professional newborn photographer in Sydney, poses on the flokati rug is also counted as a prop. The flokati rug is what we use as a prop for the pose where we wrap the baby up with cute little wrap and siting the baby up in the middle. The baby will look very cute like a little snowman or a snow girl. It is one of our Sydney parents’ favourite pose.

How Many Props Hard Props

Hard props is what us, professional newborn photographers, call for wooden props such as wooden basket, little cute bucket and the wooden heart bowl etc. At Capture The Moment By Ana Photography, we love the idea of preparing as many props as possible so we won’t waste a day for our Sydney parents. And we know that our Sydney parents love those props. How many can parents choose is really depending on how many props they like. I usually prepare the props and setups according to our parents liking. Generally I’d say we prepare about five to six hard props for a newborn photo session at our studio in Sydney.

Example Of Props Selected

Here is the example of props selected by our Sydney parents for their newborn photo session at our newborn photography studio in Sydney. A bucket, a basket, a flokati rug, a moon pillow, a wooden heart bowl. That is five props and that is how many props our Sydney parents choose for their baby photo session. Then adding a few poses on the beanbag then the total would be eight or nine.

Our newborn photo session usually takes about 3 – 4 hours and that includes siblings and parents as well. In saying that, the session can go longer or shorter depending on how much the baby allows me. Baby is always the boss and baby safety is always our priority therefore we do not rush our newborn photo session.

At Capture The Moment By Ana, we also offer a free-consultation at our studio in Sydney so we can show our parents everything and answer all the questions they may have. The free-consultation benefits our parents in many ways. The most important thing is communication and they can see if we are the right photographer for them or not. It helps them making the decision easier. As a professional newborn photographer in Sydney, we do know and understand that this newborn photo session is very important for our parents and it will be something their family will cherish forever. Therefore, we want to make sure we deliver the best portraits for our families. We know that it will be something that they will pass on to their next generation.
