One of the most common questions I receive from parents is:
“My baby is already 6 weeks old… is it too late for newborn photos?”
The answer is absolutely not.
While newborn sessions are ideally photographed within the first 2 weeks after birth, beautiful images can still be captured at 6 weeks old and beyond. Every stage of your baby’s journey is special and worth remembering.
Why Are Newborn Sessions Usually Done Earlier?
Traditional newborn photography is commonly scheduled within the first 5–14 days after birth because babies tend to be sleepier, curlier, and easier to settle into those posed newborn positions.
At this age, babies also spend much of the session sleeping deeply, which allows for more posed and wrapped images.
But that does not mean older babies cannot have a beautiful session too.

What Is Different About a 6 Week Old Baby Session?
At around 6 weeks old, babies are usually much more alert and expressive. They may spend more time awake during the session, making eye contact, stretching, and showing their little personalities.
Instead of focusing heavily on sleepy curled poses, sessions at this age often capture:
- Beautiful awake expressions
- Eye contact
- Tiny smiles
- Stretchy poses
- Connection with parents
- Wrapped and relaxed setups
These moments are incredibly precious too.
Can Older Babies Still Sleep During the Session?
Sometimes yes — and sometimes no!
Every baby is different. Some 6 week old babies still sleep beautifully during parts of the session, while others prefer to stay awake and curious about the world around them.
That is completely okay. I always work patiently around your baby’s comfort and natural personality.

There Is No “Perfect” Time
Many parents worry they have missed their chance because life with a newborn can feel overwhelming. Recovery, feeding, sleepless nights, and adjusting to a new routine can make the early weeks fly by very quickly.
Please do not feel discouraged if your baby is older than the typical newborn age.
The most important thing is capturing your baby as they are right now — tiny, loved, and growing far too quickly.
A Relaxed and Flexible Experience
My sessions are always baby-led and relaxed, no matter your baby’s age. I allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, settling, and breaks throughout the session.
Whether your baby is sleepy, awake, cuddly, or curious, we can still create beautiful memories for your family.
Final Thoughts
So if your baby is already 6 weeks old, the answer is yes — it is still absolutely okay to book a session.
There is never a wrong time to capture your baby’s story. Every stage is beautiful in its own way, and these memories will only become more valuable as the years pass.
