Traditional Poses For A Posed Newborn Photography Session

Traditional poses for a posed newborn photography session is one of the most asked by our parents at our Newborn Photography Studio in Sydney. Most parents have planned for their baby’s milestone photography session ahead of time to make sure they get those beautiful moments captured by professional baby photographers. But being pregnant is not always giving mums a lot of free time and many mums has forgotten to plan or do some research for their baby’s milestone photography session which is why this blog post about ‘What is the ideal age for a baby photography session’ will be very useful for parents who are looking for more information how to go about their baby’s photo sessions.

Ideal Age for Newborn Photography Session

For newborn photography, the ideal age for a newborn photography, I recommend either between 5 – 14 days after they were born. However, at Capture The Moment By Ana, we photograph newborn babies of up to 6 weeks old. For Sydney parents, if you read until here, please do not get panicked! We, as a professional Sydney Newborn Photographer, we do understand the nature of having a baby as they may arrive early or they may arrive a little bit later than your expected due date. With us, we reschedule your newborn photography session after the baby actually arrives. No worries at all!

But why newborn photography is recommended between 5 – 14 days?

Newborn photography is recommended to be photographed when they are between 5 – 14 days because the purpose of the newborn photography session is to capture them while they are newborns. Those curls, those tiny hands and tiny feet, those little lips and most importantly, they are still very flexible! Baby’s flexibility is great and it is very useful for posed newborn photography. For a lifestyle newborn photography, baby’s flexibility is not needed too much.

What is Posed Newborn Photography?

Posed Newborn Photography is what we at Capture The Moment By Ana are specialised and I can tell you all about it! Posed Newborn Photography is when the professional newborn photographers capture those beautiful moments of the newborn babies by posing them. They either are posed on the beanbag or in the props with beautiful variety of colours of wraps. Our parents usually pick their favourite colours and props for us to design and prepare for their newborn baby’s photography session. To handle the precious little tiny newborn babies and to pose them into poses, professional newborn photographers are usually trained, attended many workshops and classes. It is always good for parents to choose their professional newborn photographers to match the artistic style they like as well as the safety of the baby are well focused on during the newborn photography session.

Examples of Poses for Posed Newborn Photography

Traditional Poses for A Posed Newborn Photography: Froggy Pose.

Froggy Pose

The Froggy Pose is the classic and many parents love this pose. How the Froggy Pose is being posed is by placing the legs by the side and the hands are placed under the chin. It is a great pose to highlight the baby’s facial features and flexibility. However, this Froggy Pose should only be done by a trained professional newborn photographers as this pose need a helper or an assistant! Baby should never be left unattended during the newborn photography session. Especially for the Froggy Pose, baby should never be left posed by themselves for this pose. Most of the trained professional newborn photographers will do this as a composite during the post-process or editing. As I mentioned earlier, baby’s safety is the most important.

Tushy Up Pose

Tushy Up Pose is also known as ‘Bum Up Pose’. The Tushy Up Pose is the baby is lying down on their tummy with one of the hands is placed under their face and legs are posed closed to their elbow. Our Sydney parents love this pose because it captures the baby’s facial features beautifully and the natural curvature of the baby’s bottom. But keep in mind that not all babies are the same. Some babies might not the like the Tushy Up Pose while some babies may love it. One of the main reasons why some babies do not feel comfortable with this pose is when they feel gassy or they have too much gas in their stomach. At our Sydney Newborn Photography Studio, we do not force the baby into the pose they don’t like or they don’t feel comfortable with. Again, baby’s safety is the most important.

A baby boy was posed for a Taco Pose during her newborn photo session in Sydney.

Taco Pose

Taco Pose is well known as one of the hardest pose for Posed Newborn Photography. Not every professional baby photographers are comfortable with taco pose because it takes a lot of experience and training to pose the Taco Pose. Why is that? The Taco Pose is also called ‘The Womb Pose’. As the name ‘Womb Pose’, it should be comfortable for the baby but in reality not all babies love it. But this Taco Pose is one of the cutest pose and it is one my favourite poses at our Sydney Newborn Photography Studio. This pose is when the baby are posed half sitting and half lying down on his legs, hands are out and closes to his faces and feet. This Taco Pose features a lot of the baby’s facial and how small and tiny their hands and feet are. Also, how flexible they are as a newborn baby. And this is one of the reason why the ideal age for newborn photography session is between 5 – 14 days old.
